Why did we do it?
Jenny ( previously a nurse in the NHS, working in rehabilitation) had an auntie & uncle who for many years ran a small B&B in the Lake District. They told her it was the best years of their lives, they are now retired.
We wanted to offer luxury accommodation in a rural setting, but not too far from local amenities. The small town of Grantown on Spey is only 3 miles away.
2012 was a good learning experience and we had guests from all over the world. Jenny’s expertise in the kitchen earned many glowing reviews. As our local knowledge increased we were able to offer advice on what to do and where to go in the area.
2013 saw our business increase by 100%. This was helped by more targeted marketing and, hopefully, a growing reputation.
We look forward to 2014 and beyond.
Where are we?
With our own passion for the out doors, we believe that the outdoor activities are the main theme of this area.
But don’t take our word for it. Read what our visitors have to say.
The “Bedrock” is truly a gem among the B&Bs. We arrived in Cromdale after a trying day of hiking and found a very warm welcome from John and Jenny who were not only friendly as it is expected by people who run a B&B, but also very obliging.
The room in which we were accomodated was what one would expect from a hotel room. Even the welcome-tray (which is refilled every day) was much more well-supplied as usual.
Our room looked as if it had been renovated recently and was very clean and comfortable with plenty of room to store our rucksacks and garments. The same can be said about our en-suite bathroom. John and Jenny tried to fulfill our every wish and even let us borrow their private DVDs to watch on the TV (DVD-player included) in our room.
Concludingly this was an absolutely unforgettable stay and we highly recommend the “Bedrock” to everybody who is travelling in this part of Scotland.
My daughter and I stayed with John and Jenny during our roadtrip through Scotland. After a disasterous first night in Grantown-on-Spey, we were lucky enough to find the Bedrock through Trip Advisor.
Lovely room and lovely people. The views were spectacular. Very affordable, gorgeous breakfast, and could not have felt more welcome.
Could not recommend it more.
My partner and I travelled the Scottish highlands from Canada and stayed at John and Jenny’s B&B in the Cairngorm’s national park. The accomodation was the best of all the places we stayed in Scotland. I had the best sleep of my whole trip!!!! The room was beautifully decorated, the surroundings were peaceful and the scenery gorgeous. They welcomed us with so much kindness and attentiveness. We were even greeted with cupcakes on our arrival. We had a delicious breakfast both days and even got a complimentary drive to the foot of the mountains for a hike. They also had many great recommendations for exploring the area. We purchased “refreshments” for our two nights and John and Jenny were so kind to put it in their own refridgerator so that it stayed cold. We were blown away by their incredible hospitality and would gladly return there in a heartbeat!!!! Cheryl & Adam, Grimsby Ontario
Just returned from walking part of the Speyside Way as a party of 5 ladies of ‘a certain age’. Jenny and John put us all up in their lovely home and went out of their way to make us comfortable. Rooms and bathrooms were spotless, food was excellent and very good value, and the location is stunning. Our hosts really ‘went the extra mile’, helping us ‘oldies’ with lifts when we arrived cold and wet in nearby Cromdale. I can heartily recommend the accommodation ‘Bedrock’ has to offer.
This is a great B&B – in fact the best B&B I have ever stayed in. The welcome, the rooms and the breakfast were all absolutely first class and significantly better than many hotels that I have stayed in. If you are looking for a base in Moray or the Cairngorms this is really a fantastic option!
Very welcoming. Transported 4 walkers from end and to start of 3 days walking. Accommodation excellent, breakfast great, check out the black pudding and the size of the on-site free range eggs! Packed lunches available on request. Hosts Jenny and John very friendly. This was the best of 5 B&Bs used on our Speyside Way walk.
Jenny and John were very hospitable, friendly. We (young couple without children) stayed for one night. The accommodations were comfortable, clean, and decorated tastefully. The rooms had available tea and cookies. Upon arriving they made us feel right at home with hot tea and home baked breads. We were even able to arrange to wash a load of clothes for a small/reasonable fee. Breakfast was very tasty. Overall, it was one of the best bed and breakfasts we have stayed at.
We recently spent three nights at J & J b&b. This place is excellent with every thing you require to have a comfortable and highly enjoyable stay. Jenny and John are so thoughtful. Jenny baked a delicious strawberry and chocolate cake for my birthday. Prepare to put on weight, the breakfasts are amazing and made from locally sourced indredients. J&J is better than any 5 star hotel. The attention to detail in everything you might need during your stay is second to none. The bungalo is set in beautiful scenery, nice and quiet at night but still within easy reach to Granton on Spey. The views from our spotlessly clean and comfortable bedroom were awesome. This area is beautiful with so many things to see and do. We loved it and will definately return to this top notch accomodation. Thanks again Jenny and John, you deserve to do well.
I spent a night here with my great aunt and uncle on our way back to England from Inverness. John and Jenny were wonderful, giving us a very warm welcome. The rooms were great, clean, tidy and with an amazing hospitality tray in each room – the shortbread was to die for. The breakfasts were delightful, with the French toast I had making me the envy of the car trip home 🙂 This is definitely a place where you should stay, whether for a night or a few more days.

A bit late for this review…! But I stayed here with three friends on the last two nights of the late May bank holiday. Jenny and John are just wonderful, lovely people :). We were given tea and coffee on arrival, as well as home made cakes (yum yum yum). The rooms are absolutely spotless, really well furnished and equipped – almost as if you are staying inside in a high end five star hotel – but the outside is just serene countryside, so peaceful – a really lovely location to really get away from it all and be in silence. Jenny and John were also very helpful in terms of tips for things to do in the local area. I would love to go back! If only it were closer to London, I would be there all the time! Oh, and the brekkie is delish with numerous options.
